What is Gum Disease?

Gum disease is a progressive inflammation of the gum line that can affect the bone that surrounds teeth. This periodontal infection became a very fast-growing epidemic in our society.

In the early stages, gum disease can be treated without surgery with a proper oral hygiene routine and cleanings. It’s very important to have a regular dental checkup to prevent gum issues.

Symptoms of Gum Disease include:
  • Swollen gums

  • Bleeding/red gums

  • Receding Gums

  • Loose teeth

  • Pus surrounding teeth/gum

  • Irritation or bad breath

Gum disease has few stages: gingivitis, periodontitis, advanced periodontitis, tooth loss. Usually, it begins with inflammation of the gingiva (gingivitis) that progressively extends to the bone tissue, forming infected “pockets” between the gingiva and the tooth. In the absence of treatment, periodontitis can result in bone destruction and loosening or even tooth loss.
